Sir Charles Lyell of Kinnordy, 1st and last Bt. was born on 14 November 1797.1 He was the son of Charles Lyell of Kinnordy and Frances Smith.2 He married Mary Elizabeth Horner, daughter of Leonard Horner, on 12 July 1832.1 He died on 11 February 1875 at age 77, when the btcy expired.1
He lived Kinnordy.1 He was Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He was DCL, FRS, author: Principles of Geology, founder memb The Sunday League, knighted in 1848.1 He was created 1st Baronet Lyell [U.K.] on 22 August 1864.1 On 22 August 1864 so created.1
