     Gilbert East Jolliffe was the son of Reverend William John Jolliffe and Julia Pytches.2 He married Margaret Ellen Banks, daughter of Sir Edward Banks, in August 1823.1 He died on 18 December 1833.1
     He gained the rank of officer in the 19th Light Dragoons.1 He lived at Tilgate Forest, England.1
