     Major John Altham Hotham was born on 4 June 1913.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. John Clarence Hotham and Margaret Emily Anne Wilmer.2 He married Osra Aubrey Porteous, daughter of W/Cdr. H. B. Porteous, on 16 May 1939.1 He died in July 1942 at age 29 at North Africa, killed in action.1
     He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Pilot Officer in the service of the Royal Air Force.1 He gained the rank of Major in the service of the Royal Tank Regiment.1
