Edward John Morton Drax Plunkett, 17th Lord Dunsany was born on 24 July 1878.1 He was the son of John William Plunkett, 16th Lord Dunsany and Ernle Elizabeth Louisa Maria Grosvenor Burton.2 He married Lady Beatrice Child-Villiers, daughter of Victor Albert George Child-Villiers, 7th Earl of Island of Jersey and Hon. Margaret Elizabeth Leigh, on 15 September 1904.3 He died on 25 October 1957 at age 79.1
Edward John Morton Drax Plunkett, 17th Lord Dunsany was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the service of the Coldstream Guards.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1900.1 He succeeded to the title of 17th Lord Dunsany [I., c. 1462] on 16 January 1899.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) by Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1940.1 He was an author and playwright.1
