     Rees Maunsell was the son of Sir Edward Mansel and Lady Jane Somerset.2 He died in 1596, beheaded with Sir John Chichester after the Battle of Carrickfergus, their heads being sent to Tyrone and their bodies being buried in Carrickfergus.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the a Troop in Ireland.1 He was also known as Rhys.1 He fought in the Battle of Carrickfergus in 1596.1
