Maj.-Gen. Sir Vernon Kell
He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on 1 October 1894 in the service of the South Staffordshire Regiment.1 He fought in the Boxer Rebellion in 1900.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1901 in the service of the War Office, as an intelligence analyst.1 He was co-founder of the Secret Service Bureau, in charge of domestic counter-intelligence in 1909.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1917.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1919.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Major-General on 27 September 1939.1
