     Maj.-Gen. Sir Vernon George Waldegrave Kell was born in 1873 at Yarmouth, Norfolk, England.¹ He was the son of Major Waldegrave C. F. Kell and Georgina Augusta Konarska.¹ He married Constance Rawdon Scott, daughter of James Scott, circa 1901 at County Cork, Ireland.¹ He died on 27 March 1942 at Stonepits, Emberton, Olney, Buckinghamshire, England.¹
     He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on 1 October 1894 in the service of the South Staffordshire Regiment.¹ He fought in the Boxer Rebellion in 1900.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in 1901 in the service of the War Office, as an intelligence analyst.¹ He was co-founder of the Secret Service Bureau, in charge of domestic counter-intelligence in 1909.¹ He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1917.¹ He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1919.¹ He gained the rank of Honorary Major-General on 27 September 1939.¹

     Betty Hobhouse is the daughter of Benjamin Hobhouse and Mary Spragge.² She married John Maidman.¹
