     Sir George Steven Harvie-Watt, 1st Bt. was born on 23 August 1903.1 He was the son of James McDougal Watt and Jessie Jack Harvie.2 He married Jane Elizabeth Taylor, daughter of Captain Archibald Taylor, on 4 January 1932.1 He died in 1989.1
     He was educated at George Watson's College, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He was educated at University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He was educated at Glasgow University, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, ScotlandG.1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1930 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Keighley between 1931 and 1935.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Richmond, Surrey between 1937 and 1959.1 He was commander of the 31st Battalion between 1939 and 1941.2 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.) in 1942.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Surrey between 1942 and 1966.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for London between 1944 and 1956.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier in the Royal Engineers (TA.)2 He was appointed King's Counsel (K.C.) in 1945.1 He was created 1st Baronet Harvie-Watt, of Bathgate, co. Linlithgow [U.K.] on 5 September 1945.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George VI between 1948 and 1952.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM Queen Elizabeth II between 1952 and 1958.1 He was chairman of Monotype Corporation between 1960 and 1969.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Greater London between 1966 and 1989.2 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society of Arts (F.R.S.A.) in 1973.1 He wrote the book Most of My Life, published 1980.1

     Jane Elizabeth Taylor was the daughter of Captain Archibald Taylor.2 She married Sir George Steven Harvie-Watt, 1st Bt., son of James McDougal Watt and Jessie Jack Harvie, on 4 January 1932.1 She died on 21 March 2003.
     Jane Elizabeth Taylor also went by the nick-name of Bettie.1 From 4 January 1932, her married name became Harvie-Watt.
