Maj.-Gen. Sir John Hanmer, 3rd Bt. was the son of Sir Thomas Hanmer, 2nd Bt. and Elizabeth Baker.2 He married Mary Alston, daughter of Joseph Alston.1 He died in 1701, killed in a duel, without surviving issue.1
He was Gentleman of the Privy Chamber to King Charles II.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Flintshire.1 He held the office of Commissioner of the Navy.1 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet Hanmer [E., 1620] in 1678.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the Williamite Regiment.1 He fought in the Battle of the Boyne in 1690.1
