     He held the office of Mayor of Bolton between 1916 and 1918, when he raised money to further WW I and for charities.¹ He was appointed Knight on 18 August 1919.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Lancashire.¹ He lived at Great Marld.
