     Cardinal Paul Cullen was born on 29 April 1803 According to one tradition in Naas while his mother was visiting his father there, but according to another in a field near near Prospect which was being ransacked by soldiers.1 He was the son of Hugh Cullen and Mary Maher.2 He died on 24 October 1878 at age 75.1
     He was the Rector between 1832 and 1849 at Irish College, Rome, Italy.1 He held the office of Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland between 1849 and 1852.1 He was Apostolic Delegate in perpetuum between 1852 and 1878.1 He held the office of Archbishop of Dublin and Primate of Ireland between 1852 and 1878.1 Celebrated as the first Irish Cardinal.1 He was Professor of Hebrew and Sacred Scripture at Sacred College of Propaganda, Rome, Italy.1 He was Cardinal-Priest of the title of San Pietro in Montorio on 22 June 1866.1 In 1870 he was prominent at the 1st Vatican Council.1 He was author of the accepted definition of the Doctrine of Papal Infallibility.1 He graduated with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.).1 He was co-formulator (with W. E. Gladstone) of the 1st Irish Home Rule Bill.1 Under different circumstances he 'might easily have been Pope.1'
