     William John Martin was born on 25 January 1853.1 He was the son of John Martin and Augusta Louisa Hopkins.1 He married Emily Mary Letitia Hamilton, daughter of William Edmond Hamilton, on 15 October 1878.1 He died on 19 December 1926 at age 73.1
     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, London, England.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1875 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He was a practising Barrister-at-Law in 1879.1 He gained the rank of Major|Leicestershire Yeomanry.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Leicestershire.1 He lived at The Lodge, Barrow-on-Soar, Leicestershire, England.1
