Francis Cosbie was born in 1510.1 He was the son of John Cosbie and Mabel Agard.2,3 He married, firstly, Lady Mary Seymour, daughter of Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset and Anne Stanhope.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Palmes in 1575.1 He died on 25 August 1580 at Glenmalure, County Wicklow, IrelandG, killed in action.1
He settled in Ireland during the reign of Queen Mary I.1 He was an active defender of the Pale.1 He held the office of Constable of Monasterevin, County Kildare in 1555.3 He held the office of Sheriff of County Kildare in 1558.3 On 14 February 1558 he was appointed General of the Keme by patent.1 In 1562 he was granted the site of the suppressed Abbey of Stradbally.1 He held the office of Constable of Maryborough, Queen's County in 1565.3 He fought in the Battle of Glenmalure on 25 August 1580.1
