Sir John Dryden, 1st Bt. was baptised on 11 November 1752.1 He was the son of Sir Edward Turner, 2nd Bt. and Cassandra Leigh.2 He married Elizabeth Dryden, daughter of Bevill Dryden and Mary Dubber, on 14 May 1781.3 He died on 14 August 1797 at age 44.1
Sir John Dryden, 1st Bt. was baptised with the name of John Turner.3 He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, London, England.3 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 1st Foot.3 On 16 December 1791 his name was legally changed to John Dryden by Royal Licence.3 He held the office of Sheriff of Northamptonshire in 1792.3 He was invested as a Knight in 1793.3 He was created 1st Baronet Dryden, of Canons Ashby, co. Northampton [Gerat Britian] on 2 May 1795.3
