     He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Royal Artillery.1 He was Manager of BBC's English by Radio Department.1 He was a novelist.1
