Joan Mervyn Cobbe was born on 7 July 1915.1 She is the daughter of Captain Mervyn Hugh Cobbe and Caroline Anne Maude Arbuthnot.2 She married Francis Charles Cobbe, son of Thomas Maberley Cobbe and Eleanor Colville, on 22 March 1941.1
