     Major Peter Geoffrey Woodchurch Clarke was born on 13 December 1913.1 He was the son of Charles Samuel Clarke and Elsie Margaret Hughes.2 He married Elizabeth Josephine Mary Gale, daughter of Geoffrey Gale, on 3 October 1953.1 He died on 31 August 1988 at age 74 at Yeovil, Somerset, England.3
     He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1935 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Engineers.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He adopted Mary Clarke.2 He adopted Thomas Clarke.2 He adopted George Clarke.2 He lived in 1976 at Cothangar Farm, Fivehead, Taunton, Somerset, EnglandG.1

     From 16 June 1928, her married name became Pitman.
