John Rutter Carden1

     John Rutter Carden was born on 5 February 1811.2 He was the son of John Carden and Ann Rutter.2 He died on 24 February 1866 at age 55, unmarried.2
     John Rutter Carden also went by the nick-name of 'Woodcock', as he was so often shot at by his tenants.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Tipperary.2 He lived at Barnane, County Tipperary, IrelandG.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Tipperary.2 In 1854 he attempted to abduct Miss Eleanor Arbuthnot, and was committed to prison.2

Sir Lionel Edward Gresley Carden1

     Sir Lionel Edward Gresley Carden was born on 15 September 1851.1 He was the son of Reverend Lionel Carden and Lucy Lawrence Ottley.2 He married Anne Eliza Lefferts, daughter of John Lefferts, on 15 February 1881.1 He died on 16 October 1915 at age 64, without issue.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was Vice-Consul at Havana in 1877.1 He was British Commissioner of Mixed Claims Commission, Mexico between 1885 and 1889.1 He was Consul-General to Cuba between 1898 and 1902.1 He was Minister at Havana between 1902 and 1905.1 He was Minister at Guatemala between 1905 and 1911.1 Between 1911 and 1913 Nicaragua and EI Salvador.1 He held the office of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and El Salvador between 1911 and 1913.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1912.1 He was Minister in Mexico in 1913.1 He was Minister in Brazil in 1914.1
