     Reverend Lionel Carden was born on 22 April 1817.¹ He was the son of John Carden and Ann Rutter.² He married Lucy Lawrence Ottley, daughter of William Young Ottley, on 2 September 1845.¹ He died on 20 September 1851 at age 34.¹

     William Young Ottley was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.)¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)¹

     Lucy Lawrence Ottley was the daughter of William Young Ottley.² She married Reverend Lionel Carden, son of John Carden and Ann Rutter, on 2 September 1845.¹ She died on 22 May 1907.¹
     From 2 September 1845, her married name became Carden.

     Sir Lionel Edward Gresley Carden was born on 15 September 1851.¹ He was the son of Reverend Lionel Carden and Lucy Lawrence Ottley.² He married Anne Eliza Lefferts, daughter of John Lefferts, on 15 February 1881.¹ He died on 16 October 1915 at age 64, without issue.¹
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He was Vice-Consul at Havana in 1877.¹ He was British Commissioner of Mixed Claims Commission, Mexico between 1885 and 1889.¹ He was Consul-General to Cuba between 1898 and 1902.¹ He was Minister at Havana between 1902 and 1905.¹ He was Minister at Guatemala between 1905 and 1911.¹ Between 1911 and 1913 Nicaragua and EI Salvador.¹ He held the office of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and El Salvador between 1911 and 1913.¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1912.¹ He was Minister in Mexico in 1913.¹ He was Minister in Brazil in 1914.¹
