Colonel Bernard Miles Byrne was born on 19 October 1852.1 He was the son of Bernard Miles Byrne and Louisa Matlack Abert.2 He married Bertha Rose Barnitz, daughter of Colonel Albert Barnitz, on 11 February 1892.1 He died on 28 February 1910 at age 57,.1
His name was legally changed to Bernard Abert.1 He was educated at Columbian College, Washington, D.C., U.S.A..1 He fought in the Spanish-American War in 1898.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the U.S. Army.1 He was decorated with the award of Congressional Medal of Honour.1
