     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Preston between 1768 and 1795.¹ He succeeded to the title of 6th Baronet Hoghton, of Hoghton Tower, and Walton le Dale, co. Lancaster [E., 1611] on 23 February 1768.¹
