Richard Maitland and Mary McAdam.1 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Ogilvie, daughter of Alexander Ogilvie of Inchmartine, on 22 April 1799.1 He married, secondly, Dorothea Bateman, daughter of Colthurst Bateman, on 8 January 1820.1 He died on 20 October 1836, without issue.1

     Lt.-Col. James Maitland gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 75th Regiment.1 He fought in the Siege of Bhurtpore.1
