Gerald Lionel Joseph Goff was born on 8 March 1855.1 He was the son of Joseph Goff and Lady Adelaide Henrietta Louisa Hortense Knox.2 He married Ellen Mary Charlotte Dundas, daughter of Sir Robert Dundas, 1st Bt. and Emily Louisa Diana Knox, on 23 May 1894.1 He died on 11 December 1899 at age 44 at Magersfontein, South AfricaG, killed in action.
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the 1st Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.1 He fought in the Zulu War in 1879.1 He fought in the Transvaal Campaign in 1881.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Hampshire.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Wiltshire.1 He fought in the Boer War in 1899.1

Gerald Lionel Joseph Goff, son of Joseph Goff and Lady Adelaide Henrietta Louisa Hortense Knox, on 23 May 1894.1 She married, secondly, Edward Robert Thompson, son of Charles Thompson, on 9 March 1903.1 She died on 23 May 1927.3
     From 23 May 1894, her married name became Goff. From 9 March 1903, her married name became Thompson.1
