     James Denis Dampier was born on 14 January 1967.1 He is the son of Lt.-Cdr. Denis John Dampier and Rosemary Jeanetta Darroch.2 He married Catherine Louise Edgecliffe-Johnson, daughter of Richard Andrew Edgecliffe-Johnson, on 6 July 1996.1
