Lt.-Col. Michael Hardinge Houssemayne Du Boulay was born on 21 September 1912.1 He was the son of Sir James Houssemayne Du Boulay and Freda Elais Butts Howell.1 He married Eleanor Jean Drysdale Henderson, daughter of John Henderson, on 29 April 1938.1 He died on 5 August 1984 at age 71.2

Michael Hardinge Houssemayne Du Boulay was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.1 He was educated between 1931 and 1934 at Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.2 He gained the rank of officer in 1934 in the service of the Ghawali Rifles, Indian Rifles.2 He fought in the Second World War between 1940 and 1945, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was decorated with the award of Military Cross (M.C.).1 He graduated from Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1949 with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the The Gordon Highlanders between 1951 and 1957.1
