Sir John Drummond-Hay was born on 1 June 1816.2 He was the son of Edward William Auriol Drummond-Hay and Louisa Margaret Thomson.3 He married Annette Adelaide Christina Carstensen, daughter of J. A. Carstensen, on 7 October 1845.2 He died on 27 November 1893 at age 77.2
He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.).1 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.).1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.).1 He was Consul-General to Morocco in 1845.2 He held the office of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipoentiary to Morocco between 1880 and 1886.2
