     Sir Francis Sharp Powell, 1st and last Bt. was born on 29 June 1827.1 He married Annie Gregson, daughter of Matthew Gregson, in 1858.1 He died on 24 December 1911 at age 84, without issue.1
     Sir Francis Sharp Powell, 1st and last Bt. graduated from St. John's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1853.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Cambridge between 1863 and 1868.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for the West Riding of Yorkshire, Northern Division between 1872 and 1874.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Wigan between 1885 and 1910.1 He was member of the Royal Commission on Sanitation.1
