Richard Townsend1

     Richard Townsend was born on 15 July 1684.2 He was the son of Commander Bryan Townsend and Mary Synge.1,3 He married, firstly, Mary Synge, daughter of Very Rev. Samuel Synge and Mary Boyle, in 1705.2 He married Mary Synge, daughter of Very Rev. Samuel Synge and Mary Boyle, in 1706.3 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Becher, daughter of Henry Becher and Catherine Owen, in 1707.2 He died in November 1742 at age 58.2 His will was probated on 11 November 1742.4
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) in 1715.4 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Cork in 1726.3,4 He lived at Castle Townsend, County Cork, Ireland.3

     Mary Synge was the daughter of Very Rev. Samuel Synge and Mary Boyle.2,3 She married Richard Townsend, son of Commander Bryan Townsend and Mary Synge, in 1705.1 She married Richard Townsend, son of Commander Bryan Townsend and Mary Synge, in 1706.3 She died before 1707, from smallpox.1
      From 1705, her married name became Townsend.1

Commander Bryan Townsend1

     Commander Bryan Townsend was born circa 1648.2 He was the son of Colonel Richard Townsend and Mary Hyde.3 He and Mary Synge obtained a marriage license on 13 May 1682.1,2 He died in 1726.4
     He gained the rank of Commander in the service of the Royal Navy, H.M.S. Swiftsure.1 He purchased Derry in 1686.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Clonakilty in 1695.1 He lived at Derry, County Derry, Ireland.1 He lived at Castle Townsend, County Cork, Ireland.1
