     Daphne Martineau was born on 13 April 1910.2 She was the daughter of Lieutenant Horace Robert Martineau, V.C. and Amy Werdmuller.1,2 She married Commander Denis John Pack-Beresford, son of Lt.-Col. Henry John Pack-Beresford and Sybil Maud Bell, on 24 November 1933.1 She died on 3 October 1973 at age 63.1
     From 24 November 1933, her married name became Pack-Beresford.1

     Lieutenant Horace Robert Martineau, V.C. was born on 24 October 1874 at 39 Princes' Square, Bayswater, London, EnglandG.2 He was the son of William Martineau and Margaretta Sarah Mason.2 He married Amy Werdmuller, daughter of Charles Werdmuller, on 31 July 1909 at East London, Natal, South AfricaG.2 He died on 7 April 1916 at age 41 at Dunedin Hospital, Dunedin, New ZealandG, from acute gastritis.2 He was buried at Andersons Bay Soldier's Cemetery, Dunedin, New ZealandG.2
     He was educated at University College School, London, EnglandG.2 He was commissioned in 1891 with the rank of Trooper, in the service of the 11th (Prince Albert's Own) Hussars.2 He gained the rank of Trooper in 1896 in the Matabele Relief Force.2 He fought in the Siege of Mafeking, where he lost his arm.2 He gained the rank of Sergeant in July 1899 in the C Squadron, Protectorate Regiment.2 He was awarded the Victoria Cross (V.C.) on 6 July 1900.1,2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1906 in the Durban Militia Reserves.2 He lived at Durban, Natal, South AfricaG.1 He fought in the First World War, serving in Egypt and Gallipoli.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Otago Regiment, New Zealand Expeditionary Force.2
