Robert Nathaniel Dudley Ryder was born on 7 December 1882.1 He was the son of Henry Ryder, 4th Earl of Harrowby and Susan Juliana Maria Hamilton Dent.1 He married Beryl Angas, daughter of Charles Angas, on 16 September 1908 at St. George's Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, EnglandG.1 He died on 30 November 1917 at age 34, killed in action.1
     He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902.1 He gained the rank of Major in the 8th Hussars.1 He fought in the First World War.1
