John Bonham-Carter1

     John Bonham-Carter was born on 22 September 1788.1,2 He was the son of Sir John Carter and Dorothy Cuthbert.1,3 He married Joanna Maria Smith, daughter of William Smith and Frances Coape, on 25 December 1816. He died on 17 February 1838 at age 49.1,2 He was buried at St. Mary the Virgin Churchyard, Buriton, Hampshire, England.2
     He was given the name of John Carter at birth.3 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He was a practising barrister.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Portsmouth between 1816 and 1838.1 On 19 March 1827 his name was legally changed to John Bonham-Carter on succeeding to the estates and brewery of his cousin, Thomas Bonham.3 He held the office of High Sheriff of Hampshire in 1829.1

     Colonel Edward Donald Malcolm, 16th of Poltalloch was born on 13 November 1837.1 He was the son of John Malcolm, 14th of Poltalloch and Isabella Harriet Wingfield.2 He married Isabella Wyld Brown, daughter of John Wyld Brown and Mary Mackellar, on 17 July 1867.3 He died on 20 March 1930 at age 92.1
     He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, London, England.3 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1881.1 He was one of the Boundary Commissioners for Scotland under Local Government Act in 1889.3 He was engineer to the Secretary for Scotland for piers and harbours, West Highlands and Islands between 1890 and 1892.3 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Argyllshire.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Argyllshire.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Engineers.3 He was Honorary Commandant in 1901, Clyde Division, Engineer Volunteer Submarine Miners.3
