Sir Richard Butler, 7th Bt. was born on 4 July 1761.1 He was the son of Sir Thomas Butler, 6th Bt. and Dorothea Bayly.2 He married Sarah Maria Newenham, daughter of Thomas Worth Newenham and Elizabeth Dawson, on 23 August 1782.1 He died on 16 January 1817 at age 55.3
Sir Richard Butler, 7th Bt. succeeded to the title of 7th Baronet Butler, of Cloughgrenan, co. Carlow [I., 1628] on 7 October 1772.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Carlow [Ireland] between 1783 and 1790.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Carlow between 1796 and 1800.4 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Carlow from 1801 to 1802.4
