     He was an architect.1 He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the First World War, in one of the public school battalions of the Royal Fusiliers.1 He fought in the Battle of Beaumont Hamel, where he was badly wounded.1 He went to work on a timber concession in Cilicia, where he was captured by Mustapha Kemal's forces, and held prisoner until his death.1
