     Basil Stanlake Brooke, 1st Viscount Brookeborough was born on 9 June 1888.1 He was the son of Sir Arthur Douglas Brooke, 4th Bt. and Gertrude Isabella Batson.1,2 He married, firstly, Cynthia Mary Sergison, daughter of Charles Warden Sergison and Hon. Florence Emma Louise Hanbury-Tracy, on 3 June 1919.1 He married, secondly, Sarah Eileen Bell Healey, daughter of Henry Healey, in 1971.1 He died on 18 August 1973 at age 85.1
     He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, EnglandG.1 He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Brooke, of Colebrooke, co. Fermanagh [U.K., 1822] on 27 November 1907.2 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 10th Hussars.2 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.2 He was awarded the Croix de Guerre.2 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1921.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)
