     John Alfred Brain was born on 8 December 1827.1 He was the son of John Brain and Ann Badcock.1 He married Ann Catherine Cottrell, daughter of Thomas Cottrell, on 26 May 1853.1 He died on 12 April 1901 at age 73.1
     John Alfred Brain held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Berkshire in 1864.1 He lived at Reading, Berkshire, England.1 He had two younger sons and three daughters.1

     Sydney Brain was born on 15 November 1860.1 He was the son of John Alfred Brain and Ann Catherine Cottrell.1 He married Gertrude Mary Atkins, daughter of John Atkins, on 9 April 1891.1 He died on 21 October 1939 at age 78.1
     Sydney Brain was educated at Christ's Hospital, Reading, Berkshire, England.1 He was a practising solicitor at Reading, Berkshire, England.1 He was Clerk to Reading Justices between 1918 and 1938.1

     John Atkins Brain was educated at Leighton Park School, Reading, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded in 1918.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the Royal Berkshire Regiment.1 He was Clerk to the Berkshire Magistrates between 1934 and 1942.1
