     Maria Anne Law was the daughter of Ewan Law and Henrietta Sarah Markham.1,2 She married Rt. Hon. Sir George Clerk of Penicuik, 6th Bt., son of James Clerk and Janet Irving, on 13 August 1810.3 She died on 7 September 1866 at 118 Eaton Square, Pimlico, London, EnglandG.1
     From 13 August 1810, her married name became Clerk.3

     William John Law was born on 6 December 1786.1 He was the son of Ewan Law and Henrietta Sarah Markham.1 He married Charlotte Elizabeth Simpson, daughter of Robert Simpson, on 1 January 1817.1 He died on 5 October 1869 at age 82 at Horsted, Sussex, EnglandG.1
     He was educated at Westminster School, Westminster, London, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1810 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1813 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He was a practising Commissioner of Bankruptcy in 1825.1 He held the office of Chief Commissioner of the Bankruptcy Court between 1853 and 1861.1 He wrote the book On the Passage of Hannibal over the Alps, published 1866.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.1
