     Maj.-Gen. John Blakiston-Houston was born on 18 April 1881.1 He was the son of John Blakiston-Houston and Marian Gertrude Streatfeild.1 He married, firstly, Louise Henrietta Leconte, daughter of Gustave Louis Leconte, on 22 November 1910.1 He married, secondly, Emma Millicent Coles, daughter of George Frederick Coles, on 20 May 1954.1 He died on 14 December 1959 at age 78, without issue.1
     He was commissioned in 1899, in the service of the Royal Irish Rifles.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902.1 He gained the rank of in 1902 in the service of the 11th Hussars.1 He gained the rank of in 1905 in the service of the West African Frontier Force.1 He gained the rank of Adjutant in 1911 in the service of the Sussex Yeomanry.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded and mentioned in despatches.1 He was decorated with the award of the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1917.1 He gained the rank of in 1923 in the service of the 12th Royal Lancers.1 He was commander of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade between 1927 and 1931.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier in 1931.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1935.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1936.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1942.1
