Mary Christian was born in 1731 at Crossthwaite, Cumberland, England.1 She was the daughter of Reverend Thomas Christian and Elizabeth Monkhouse.1 She married John Scales, son of Rowland Scales and Elizabeth Denny, on 23 February 1773.2 She died in July 1779 at Thwaitehead, Lancashire, England, in childbirth.1
