     Lt.-Col. Gordon Thomas Riddell Birdwood was born on 2 June 1948.1 He is the son of Lt.-Col. Richard Douglas Davis Birdwood and Phyllis Rosa Robinson.1 He married, firstly, Anne Sheila Price, daughter of Captain D. K. Price, on 29 April 1976.1 He and Anne Sheila Price were divorced in 1979.1 He married, secondly, Arabella Katherine Fraser, daughter of General Sir David William Fraser, on 8 December 1984.1
     Lt.-Col. Gordon Thomas Riddell Birdwood was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1968 in the service of the Royal Horse Guards.1 He was admitted to Borderers' Company, as a Liveryman in 1990.1 He was Commander of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment in 1992.1 He was a consultant for Workman and Partners between 1992 and 1997.1 He held the office of Gentleman Usher to HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1997.1 He was a director of Defence Systems Ltd in 1998.1 He lived in 2003 at 31 Alexander Street, London, England.1
