     Lt.-Col. Gordon Travers Birdwood was born on 24 January 1867.1 He was the son of Herbert Mills Birdwood and Edith Marion Sidonie Impey.1 He married, firstly, Dora Davis, daughter of John Samuel Champion Davis, in 1902.1 He married, secondly, Alice Caroline Finlay, daughter of Colonel Henry Thomas Finlay, after 1905.1 He died on 14 April 1945 at age 78.1
     He was educated at Clifton College, Clifton, Bristol, Gloucestershire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Peterhouse College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)1 He graduated with a Diploma in Public Health (D.P.H.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Indian Medical Service.1 He fought in the Arbor Expedition, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He fought in the Chitral Campaign.1 He fought in the Waziristan Campaign.1
