     John Barttelot was the son of Adam Barttelot and Assoline de Stopham.1 He married Joan de Stopham, daughter of William de Stopham.1 He died in 1428.1
     John Barttelot fought in the Hundred Years War, where he took the castle of Fontenay in France. For this, Edward the Black Prince granted him a castle as a crest.1 In 1399 he inherited the Manor of Stopham from his father-in-law.1
