     Robert Wemyss Muir Arbuthnot was born on 25 July 1889.1 He was the son of Robert George Arbuthnot and Helen Mary Muir.1 He married Mary Coghill, daughter of Norman Coghill, on 3 July 1915.1 He died on 10 January 1962 at age 72.1
     Robert Wemyss Muir Arbuthnot was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.1 He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He graduated from Cambridge University in 1910 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded twice.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Field Artillery (Special Reserve).1 He was decorated with the award of Croix de Guerre.1 He was decorated with the award of Military Cross (M.C.) in 1918.1
