     He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) for Aberdeenshire.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Aberdeenshire.1

     Maj.-Gen. Francis Shirley Russell of Aden was born on 13 December 1840.1 He was the son of James Russell of Aden and Caroline Lambton.1 He married Philippa Augusta Maria Baillie, daughter of Rt. Hon. Colonel Henry James Baillie and Hon. Philippa Eliza Sydney Smythe, on 1 September 1888.1 He died on 21 March 1912 at age 71.1
