     Major John Hargreaves Elwes was born on 11 January 1906 at London, England.2 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Henry Cecil Elwes and Edith Muriel Hargreaves. He married Isabel Pamela Ivy Beckwith, daughter of Lt.-Col. William Malebisse Beckwith and Lady Muriel Beatrice Gordon-Lennox, on 6 December 1934. He died on 18 March 1943 at age 37 at Mareth, TunisiaG, killed in action.3
     He fought in the Second World War.3 He gained the rank of Major in the Scots Guards.3 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)3
