     Edward Gaspard Ponsonby, 2nd Baron Sysonby was born on 7 June 1903.1 He was the son of Frederick Edward Grey Ponsonby, 1st Baron Sysonby and Victoria Lily Hegan Kennard.1 He married Sallie Whitney Sanford, daughter of Dr. Leonard Cutler Sanford, on 2 October 1936.1 He died on 21 January 1956 at age 52.1

     He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded.2 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.2
