     Vernon Hector Corbyn was born on 16 January 1898 at Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales.1 He was the son of Major Hector Corbyn and Lylie Evelyn Carey.1 He died on 22 September 1914 at age 16, killed in action, when H.M.S. Cressy was sunk byt a U-Boat.1
     He gained the rank of Midshipman in 1911 in the Royal Navy.1 He fought in the First World War.1
