     Sir Noel Hughes Havelock Charles, 3rd Bt. was born on 20 November 1891.1 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Sir Richard Havelock Charles, 1st Bt. and Gertrude Seton Gordon.1 He married, firstly, Grace Edith Bevir, daughter of Joseph Louis Bevir, on 18 November 1916.1 He married, secondly, Gipsy Joan Lawrence, daughter of Sir Walter Lawrence, on 6 November 1957.1 He died on 8 September 1975 at age 83.2
     He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.1 He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1912 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1919, where he was mentioned in dispatches twice.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)1 He was with HM Diplomatic Service in 1919.1 He lived at The Abbey Grange, Watham Abbey, Essex, England.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.)1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Charles, of Waltham Abbey, co. Essex [U.K., 1928] on 26 August 1936.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1937.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1941.1 He held the office of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Brazil between 1941 and 1944.1 He held the office of High Commissioner to Italy between 1944 and 1947.1 He held the office of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkey between 1949 and 1951.1 He was appointed Knight, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.St.J.)1 He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1968 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.2

     From 18 November 1916, her married name became Charles.1
