     Lt.-Gen. Sir Thomas Picton was born on 24 August 1758.1 He was the son of Thomas Picton and Cecil Powell.1 He died on 18 June 1815 at age 56 at Waterloo, Belgium, killed in action.1
     He was commissioned in 1771 with the rank of Ensign, in the service of the 12th regiment of Foot.2 He gained the rank of Captain in January 1778.2 He gained the rank of Major in 1795 in the 58th Foot.2 He held the office of Governor of Trinidad between 1797 and 1803.2 He fought in the Peninsular Wars between 1807 and 1814.2 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.)2 He fought in the Battle of Waterloo on 18 June 1815.2
