     Sir David Orme Masson was born on 13 January 1858 at Hampstead, London, England.1 He was the son of David Mather Masson and Emily Rosaline Orme.1 He married Mary Struthers, daughter of Sir John Struthers and Christina Margaret Alexander, on 5 August 1886.1 He died on 10 August 1937 at age 79 at South Yarra, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.1
     He was educated at University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1 He was professor of chemistry at University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1903.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1918.1 He was Fellow, Institute of Chemistry of Great Britain and Ireland.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1923.1
