     General Sir Thomas Makdougall-Brisbane, 1st Bt. was born on 23 July 1773 at Largs, Ayrshire, Scotland.2 He was the son of Thomas Brisbane and Eleanora Bruce.1 He married Anna Maria Mackdougall, daughter of Sir Henry Hay-Makdougall of Alderston, 4th Bt. and Isabella Douglas, in November 1819.1 He died on 27 January 1860 at age 86 at Largs, Ayrshire, Scotland.1
     He graduated with a Doctor of Law (LL.D.)1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Hanoverian Order (G.C.H.)1 He was president of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.)1 He was given the name of Thomas Brisbane at birth.1 He fought in the Peninsular Wars.1 He held the office of Governor of New South Wales between 1820 and 1826.1 On 14 August 1826 his name was legally changed to Thomas Makdougall-Brisbane by Royal Licence.1 He was created 1st Baronet Makdougall-Brisbane [U.K.] in 1836.1
