     Alonso Fernández de Lugo was born circa 1454 at Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Spain.1 He was the son of Pedro Fernández de Lugo Señorino and Inés de las Casas.1 He died in 1525 at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands.1
     In 1493 he lead the conquest of La Palma.1 In 1496 he lead the conquest of Tenerife.1 Circa 1500 he planned to build in the Valley of Aguere (Tenerife) an ideal 'town-territory' laid out according to philosophical principles, San Cristóbal de la Laguna, which became the capital of the island and the whole archipelago until 1833. It was Spain's first non-fortified colonial town and served as a model for development in America.1 He held the office of 1st Adelantado de Canarias, by Isabella I, Queen of Castille and by Fernando II, King of Spain.1
