     Major William Whitaker Thompson was born on 27 February 1857.1 He was the son of Sir Matthew William Thompson, 1st Bt. and Mary Ann Thompson.2 He married Isabella Blanche Spencer Lewin, daughter of Spencer Robert Lewin, on 5 June 1889.1 He died on 2 March 1920 at age 63.1
     He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was admitted to Inner Temple entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for London.1 He was awarded the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Officers' Decoration (V.D.)1 He held the office of chairman of the London County Council between 1910 and 1911.1 He held the office of Mayor of Kensington between 1912 and 1912.1 He was member of the Metropolitan Water Board.1 He gained the rank of Major in the 2nd Battalion, London Regiment.1 He fought in the First World War, in Malta, Egypt and Gallipoli.1
